Making a Start - Funnel Hacking and Market Research
Research, research, and research early on in your business to gain amazing thoughts and insights about how to spark and nurture your ideas. I am not suggesting that you copy or plagiarise any content in this post. Copying the work of others is wrong and not at all helpful for what you are trying to do. What I am suggesting is that by doing lots of research, you can expose yourself to many different ideas, which you then distil down and include with your thoughts and experiences to create something unique to you that will best serve your dream client.
I have heard the term 'funnel hacking' used frequently in this space and assume it can be attributed to Russel Brunson, the founder of Click Funnels. Funnels are the marketing channels through which you will sell your products or services. You don't need to redo everything from scratch – there is so much out there that others have already learned, and you can gain many valuable insights through your hacking. Some suggestions for funnel hacking include the following:
- Start buying goods and services in your space. You need to know what is available already and how you can design something that improves existing offerings and is unique to you.
- Create a separate email account where you subscribe to prominent people (in and outside your industry), so you can start following their email marketing strategies.
- Tune into email subject lines, FB and Instagram Ads and other media that get your attention. Write them down so you can refer to them later, such as on a Trello board.
- Follow key influencers and business owners in your industry (and outside of your immediate business space) on social media to see how they engage with their clients, their language, what offers they are making, etc.
- Use QuickTime to record sales pages and websites that inspire you and save them in your cloud storage. Make screenshots of things that get your attention on your phone and computer so you can refer to them later. You can also use QuickTime to record free webinars and videos that you can't watch at the time but want to listen to later. Often they are only available for a short time, so I will record, save and watch or listen to the video when I can.
Remember to take notes through the lens of your business only, rather than notes on what other ventures are doing, as the knowledge you compile will be much more helpful.
Where will you start first with your research and brainstorming?
