Making a Start - Creating a Lead Magnet
A fantastic way to bring your business to the attention of new customers is through a lead magnet (also called an opt-in or freebie). A lead magnet is where you give value and results for free ahead of time in exchange for an email address. Email addresses can be so valuable as social media policies and algorithms can change at any time, people are more likely to buy off an email than social media, and you have a direct line of communication with your community. A lead magnet helps educate and motivate your dream client to do business with you and helps build relationships between you and your dream client.
Lead magnets can take many forms, including:
- PDF guide or ebook – planners, guides, podcast episodes, journal prompts
- Pop up podcast
- Free mini-course
- Free trial
- Access to a private community
- Coupon code
- Quizzes
- Webinar
- Email course or Facebook Challenges
- Checklist
- Report
- Template
- Cheat sheet
- Video
- Phone call
My first lead magnet is a pdf guide, “10 Tips for Creating Time in Your Week”, designed to help mums find more time to work on their business. I repurposed a lot of content from my blog for this first lead magnet (you also don’t need to create new content continually). I used a Canva template and added my images and text. Your lead magnet should include an introduction about you and a call to action, such as where they can find some of your offers. Once finished, I downloaded the document as a pdf and compressed it using www.ilovepdf.com. I then made it available on my website by creating a form that gives access to it.
I plan to invest a lot more time and energy in this process (including testing different lead magnets for better conversions) when my course is ready to sell, as I recognise its value in building my community and sharing helpful resources with mums.
