Making a Start - Start Collecting Stories
I listened to ‘Storyworthy’ by Matthew Dicks on Audible and found it full of great ideas that I could use to incorporate storytelling into the copy of my business. Stories are so important to create interest and connection with your audience. He had a fantastic idea, which I liked and have started doing. He suggested creating a ‘Homework for Life’ Excel spreadsheet and recording one or two notable things daily to create a bank of stories. Dicks also recommends writing down memories that come to you through your day for future storytelling.
Rather than creating a spreadsheet, I made a Trello board which I add to regularly. I found Trello easier because it is easy to access on my phone, and I already use the app daily. I write down all sorts of notes about what has happened to me during the day or week. It has become a treasure trove of ideas I can use when I need them, including funny things my kids have said, different observations, lots of events and activities and things that have happened. For example, I recently read back through some notes I made and remembered the morning we woke up to a frog in our master ensuite, much to the delight of our kids. We then safely delivered him back to the nearby river. It was a story I had completely forgotten about until I read it!
