Pricing strategy value ideal client positioning money mindset over-deliver Alison O'Sullivan Coaching

Today, in 4 minutes or less, you'll learn:

  1. Setting your pricing strategy requires knowing your value and ideal client — understand what your ideal customer is willing to pay, check competitors, and position your offer confidently.
  2. Work through mindset and commit — address money blocks, set prices that excite you, and decide within three days to avoid overthinking.
  3. Be strategic and over-deliver — use discounts wisely, consider payment options, and consistently deliver more value than expected to build loyalty.

One of the biggest challenges when starting a business can be figuring out what to charge. It's normal to feel uncertain, but here's a truth I want you to remember: ‘You are allowed to price your work with confidence — and people will pay for the value you bring’.

I want to share a practical checklist in today's newsletter to help you work through your pricing decisions.

Key Pricing Tips for Your Business

#1 Start with your ideal client

What would your ideal client be willing to spend? Understanding this helps give you clarity.

Also, ask yourself: What have I spent on courses, products, or services like mine? Your spending habits can offer clues.

#2 Work through your money mindset

Money blocks can hold you back.

Consider doing a money mindset course or reading books on pricing and value — they can boost your confidence to ask for what you're worth.

#3 Check your competitors

What are others charging? Where do you fit?

You don't need to match them exactly, but understanding your space helps you position yourself — are you offering low-priced/high-volume or premium high-value/low-volume goods or services?

#4 Make a decision quickly

Give yourself no more than three days to decide. Sitting on pricing decisions for weeks can drain your energy.

#5 Feel confident and excited

You need to believe in the benefits your clients will get.

If you don't tell people confidently what you do, they won't know! No hiding — share your offer proudly.

#6 Reverse-engineer your goals

How many people do you want to sell to/serve? What's your revenue goal?

Check if the math adds up — if not, you need to adjust your price or offer.

Bonus Tips

  • There's no 'critic-proof' price: crowdsourcing your price by asking people what they are prepared to pay can be risky. Remember: raising prices later is easier than lowering them (nobody wants to feel ripped off!).
  • Not everyone will be ready: if someone can't afford you, that's okay — off them free resources you may have available. They may not be your client right now. There may still be opportunities to work together in future.
  • People spend on all sorts of things: if you're offering value, stand tall in your pricing.
  • Be smart with discounts: discounts can work, but use them strategically — to create urgency, not to undervalue yourself.
  • Consider your payment options: will you offer one or tiered pricing (basic/premium)? Will you allow payment plans? Sometimes, making it easier to pay can open the door to more customers.
  • Deliver more than expected: when you consistently over-deliver, you create loyal, raving customers who stay and recommend you.

Final Thoughts

Pricing is not just about numbers — it's about how you position yourself and the value you believe you bring.

You deserve to feel excited and confident about your prices!
